Luton, England - The world's most multi-badged van has picked up yet another nameplate, as the new Opel Vivaro - which is also sold as the Renault Trafic and Nissan Primastar - goes into production at the Kimpton Road plant as the Vauxhall Vivaro.
But the quintessential British 'white van man', as we know, is a very demanding customer - so much so that Vauxhall has introduced 'extreme' test procedures, designed to validate the agility, durability and safety of every new Vivaro van.
Handbrake turns, J-turns and approved 'Two-Wheel Certification' across designated parts of the factory floor are just some of the tests that are now seen as commonplace among the 1200-strong workforce, as shown in this leaked internal video.
Plant director Mike Wright welcomed the new protocol.
"As Britain's largest light commercial vehicle manufacturer, we want to ensure that every customer receives the very best van that we can produce," he said, "and that means putting it through the most demanding manoeuvres we can think of.
"Our official test driver - known as "Stig-aro" to the men and women on the production line - has now got his procedure down to such a fine art that it barely raises an eyebrow in the factory. They just let him get on with it.
"But please don't try this at home!"
