Alfa 8C is even more striking topless

Just as the delivery schedule for the superb Alfa 8C Competizione is being finalised, Alfa Romeo will debut its stunning convertible sibling - the 8C Spider - at the Geneva auto show in March 2008.

The 8C spider is visually arresting from every angle, its lines slightly more severe than those of the Competizione coupé. Under the bonnet, however, is the same 335kW, 4.7-litre V8, driving the rear wheels via a sophisticated six-speed, F1-style, paddle shift gearbox.

A fascia-mounted button inside the carbon fibre cockpit, transforms the cosseted cabin of the Alfa 8C Spider into a superb, open-top, GT cruiser.

The folding top is constructed from two layers of fabric and, Alfa says, creates a weatherproof, acoustically comfortable passenger environment. It can also be ordered in a range of colours to suit the body colour of the car.

Production of the Alfa 8C Spider will be limited to 500, as with its coupé stablemate, and is also expected to sell out within weeks.

There are, unfortunately, no plans to release the 8c Spider in South Africa.
