Affalterbach - Mercedes-AMG is getting ready to pull the covers off the long-awaited four-door version of the AMG GT and these official pictures show a disguised prototype undergoing final testing.

Thankfully the camo doesn’t leave too much to the imagination and the finished product seems to have remained relatively faithful to last year’s GT Concept (below), with an aggressively tapered rear end that resembles the coupè as closely as possible within the packaging constraints of a large four-door body.

The front, from what we can decipher, has wider headlights than the two-door, seemingly inspired by the pointy new eyes on the latest CLS.

Still no official word on what’s under the bonnet, but word on the street is that the first version will start out with the E63’s 450kW 4-litre twin-turbo V8, while an even hotter petrol-electric hybrid variant could be released at a later stage.

Going up against Porsche's Panamera Turbo, the new AMG will be a clear attempt the blur the lines between sedan and sports car.

The new GT is expected to make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
