Munich - BMW first pulled the covers off its all-new 8 Series back in May, but now the Bavarian carmaker is giving us a closer look at what is arguably one of its better looking modern products through a new picture gallery showing it in a variety of colours.

The reincarnated 8 Series, which replaces the 6 Series Coupe, is set to go on sale in South Africa around the first quarter of 2019, but BMW has already listed the M850i xDrive version on its local website at a price of R1 887 827.

As previously reported, the M850i is powered by a new 4.4-litre V8 motor that produces 390kW between 5500 and 6000rpm, a wholesome 50kW more than the engine it replaces, with 750Nm of twist available from 1800rpm. That’s enough to get you from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds, BMW says.

As is becoming the norm in BMW performance models, drive goes to all four wheels through an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and a rear-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive system, with dynamics also beefed up by an electronically controlled differential lock as well as BMW’s Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers and Integral Active Steering.

The cabin is bang-up-to-date, featuring BMW’s latest-generation 7.0 Operating System with gesture control and there’s a 31.2cm digital instrument cluster and Head-Up Display
