Subaru's already let go of the first pictures of its new Forester earlier this month, but now they've released a bigger album that also shows us how it looks from the back and inside.

Set to reach South Africa in the second quarter of 2013, the latest SUV takes a cautious design approach that fits the mould of the latest XV and Impreza models.

The local range will offer a new 2-litre turbopetrol with direct injection, as well as the current normally aspirated 2.5 petrol and, further down the line, a turbodiesel option.

While no specifications for the diesel have been released yet, it's safe to assume that the 2.5 petrol will continue to offer 126kW and 235Nm while the 2.0 turbopetrol for global markets is credited with 186kW and 349Nm.

Power, as you'd expect, is distributed to all four wheels via an improved version of Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel drive system, which now includes an X-Mode button to provide better control on slippery and/or uneven surfaces.

Despite having similar dimensions on the outside, the new SUV is said to be more spacious on the inside, while engineers have made improvements to the overall drivability and lowered the noise, vibration and harshness levels.
