Hyundai has given its Polo-rivalling i20 hatchback some polish in the form of a mild facelift and the good news is that South African’s won’t have to wait long for this one.
Due to be launched locally on 21 May, the i20 five-door gets a new front bumper, featuring Hyundai’s new ‘cascading’ grille, while the rear number plate moves from the back bumper to the redesigned tailgate, which is flanked by fresh tail lights.
New alloy wheel designs and additional colours round off the exterior design changes.
Bear in mind, however, that what you’re looking at is the European spec, and SA models - sourced from India - may differ slightly.

This will mainly affect the drivetrain line-up, however, meaning we’d likely get slightly tweaked versions of the current normally aspirated petrol engines rather than the 1-litre turbopetrol that European customers receive. Thus, we’re also likely to miss out on the new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that’s been announced for Europe.
On the inside, fancier i20 models get a new 17.8cm infotainment system that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
