New York - Hyundai’s Tucson has been given its customary mid-life nip and tuck, the Rav4 rival getting an external refresh, brand new cabin and some extra gizmos.
The most notable alteration at first glance is the new front bumper with its large ‘cascading’ grille - which has become a modern Hyundai design signature - and it's flanked by redesigned headlights and daytime running lights. The Tucson also gets new alloy wheel designs (ranging from 17 to 19 inches) and round back the taillights get a fresh inner design.
Hyundai has upped its game on the inside with a brand new dashboard featuring more premium materials and a prominent 17.8cm touchscreen infotainment system towering above the central air vents.
Available features include Smart Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go traffic assist, High Beam Assist and Qi wireless charging, among others.
South African specs and pricing, of course, will only be known closer to launch, as will the engine mix.
For the US market, these include a pair of normally aspirated direct injection petrol engines in 2-litre (122kW) and 2.4-litre (135kW) guises, both mated to a six-speed autobox. No mention of the current 1.6-litre turbo motor, although it will more than likely carry over in South African models.
