Are one of those okes who look in the mirror and see the Camel Man?

If so, the Mzanzi Trophy Challenge might be right up your alley.

It runs from August 12 to 31, starting in Cape Town and going through Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and Malawi before finishing in Mozambique.

Organisers Mountainshak Adventures want to give participants the chance to experience the holiday of a lifetime, which they promise will include beauty, nature and adventure.

Teams of up to five people will tackle 10 000km in 20 days using their own off-road vehicles, and will have to complete tasks, solve riddles and seek out clues as they journey through Etosha in Namiba, the Makgadikgadi Pans and Savuti and Moremi reserves in Botswana, the Victoria Falls in Zambia and the beaches of Lake Malawi – in a quest to discover the secret location of the finish line in Mozambique.

ROUGH AND READY

Mountainshak’s Daryn Hillhouse promised: “The Mzanzi Trophy isn’t a guided, air-conditioned tourist experience - it’s a rough-and-ready adventure that is not for the faint-hearted.

“Teams will need to use their wit, common sense and instinct to solve the points-based Spirit of the Great Heart challenges along the way, while engaging with locals to find the best markets, food, accommodation and scenery.”

The R19 000 entry fee per team includes organisation, events, relevant equipment, route guides, Mzanzi Trophy clothing and vehicle branding. Entries are limited to 30 teams.

Teams will be responsible for paying for their own fuel, food and accommodation. Organisers have arranged special events at each checkpoint, including meals, music and entertainment.
