Kia reveals new compact SUV concept in India

New Delhi - As promised, Kia took the wraps off its new compact SUV concept called the SP at India’s Auto Expo 2018.

It forecasts a new production model that’s set to debut after Kia enters India in 2019 and although it was designed for that market, it certainly hasn’t been ruled out for other corners of the planet.

While it’s too early to say whether the new SUV is destined for our market, Kia SA has told us that it will have access to Indian production once it comes on stream (with various products including a new Rio sedan) in the latter half of 2019, which means it’s certainly theoretically possible.

The SP Concept sports two-tone paintwork, a large ‘Tiger Nose’ grille and Kia’s own interpretation of the split-level front lighting set-up that has become all the rage today.

It won’t change too drastically in its transition to production guise, says Kia’s design chief Peter Schreyer:

“It’s still a concept - so it’s a little bit exaggerated - but the actual production car will be very close to what you see here at AutoExpo 2018.”
