Johannesburg - Mazda South Africa has given its CX-5 line-up a tweak in the middle of the range.

A 2.0 Individual auto front-wheel-drive model joins the range, bringing the total number of derivatives up to eight models and giving buyers a more affordable high-spec option.

Furthermore, the existing 2.5 petrol Individual model, previously offered as a front-wheel-drive model, is now fitted with all-wheel-drive as standard, although this pushes the price up from R500 600 to R543 800.

Individual models are lavishly specced, with standard fare including a power tailgate, head-up-display, Bose 10 speaker sound system, power adjustable front seats, satnav as well as Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist, among other features.

This is in addition to the dual-zone climate control, 17.8cm infotainment system, cruise control, auto headlights and keyless start that’s standard across the CX-5 range.

The power units remain as before, with Mazda’s normally aspirated 2-litre petrol producing 121kW and 213Nm and the 2.5-litre equivalent pushing 143kW and 258Nm. There’s also a 2.2-litre turbodiesel, rated at 140kW and 450Nm.

The engines are mated to either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearboxes.

All vehicles are sold with a three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and service plan.
