Goodwood, Sussex - This is the design sketch for Rolls-Royce's Geneva show special, a one-of-a-kind car called Serenity - and we have published this story as a gallery so that we can bring you some detail crops.

While most show cars are intended to create a visual impact (the level of ambient noise at a motor show is too high for a catchy soundtrack to be anything but an annoyance) this one is remarkable for its almost Zen-like stillness, as if inviting you to sit back and let it soothe your soul.

IMPERIAL THEME

The Japanese-themed interior celebrates the role played by silk through history as a symbol of luxury and status, re-introducing the finest of textiles to luxury motoring and combining the elegant simplicity of the Japanese royal kimono - pale sea-green with delicate silk blossom motif - with the intricate grain of smoked cherry veneer.

The wood trim elements are deceptively simple, evoking contemporary European furniture designs, as are the specially-made instrument dials, while the silk blossom motif is repeated on the cap trim veneer of the rear doors, in Marquetry with mother-of-pearl inlay.
