Mahindra has released a petrol version of its Scorpio SUV, which until now has been available only as a turbodiesel.

Mahindra South Africa CEO Vijay Nakra said: "The public demand for a petrol version was such that we could not ignore the requests."

The four-cylinder engine is a Renault unit that makes 90.5kW at 5500rpm with 180Nm of torque available at 3800rpm. It features an electronic control unit and "fly by wire" throttle.

The petrol Scorpio starts at R166 400 for the GL version, with the GLX priced at R169 900. Standard features include a front-loading CD player, power steering and air conditioning. It's also available in seven or eight seat configurations. - Star motoring
