Hailing from Croatia, the Rimac's Concept_One could very well 'electrify' the supercar market. The gorgeous new beast made its debut at the Frankfurt show this week and the real talking point was its claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.8 seconds, thanks to its system output of 811kW and kerb weight of just 1650kg. It even has a theoretical driving range of 600km.

Its electric powertrain is divided into four sub-systems, with each of the car's wheels motivated by a single motor, inverter and reduction gearbox and each of these systems work completely independently. Rimac calls it 'All Wheel Torque Vectoring' and says it allows a new approach to vehicle dynamics.

The lightweight carbon-fibre body was designed by Adriano Mudri, who aimed to create a simple and clear design with sporty elegance. The cabin, meanwhile, was created by a team of former Pininfarina employees, who also sought the help of leather-specialist Vilner. The team took anything but the bare basics approach inside, incorporating numerous modern-day gadgets, including an infotainment system and head-up displays.

Rimac is a young company that develops and produces high performance electric vehicles, drivetrains and battery systems.

It all began when founder Mate Rimac converted his old BMW into a race EV. He explored the technology by improving every part and began to team up with experts from different fields with the aim of developing the next generation supercar.

Right now the company consists of 20 multi-talented engineers and designers who will soon start producing the Concept_One, which will go on sale in 2013, with volumes limited to just 88 units.
