Johannesburg - The local Isuzu KB bakkie range has been treated to a facelift and improved chassis, while specification has been beefed up in range-toppers.
The key visual changes take place up front with a redesigned bumper, grille and headlights giving the bakkie a more sculpted look. LX models get integrated LED day time running lights. Those with a sharp eye will also notice a new tailgate design on extended and double cab models, and styling changes are rounded off with new wheel designs across the range - 18-inch alloys in the case of LX versions and 16-inch steel rims on the rest of the range.
The only alteration inside is a new instrument cluster design that includes a gear shift indicator for manual models. The LX versions, which already have a touch-screen infotainment system with satnav and WiFi, now also come with a reverse camera.
The suspension has been honed by local engineers with the aim of improving ride quality. To that end the KBs receive new dampers, on both axles in hi-rider models and on the rear only in the case of 4x4s.
Engines carry over as before, kicking off with the 'proven' 58kW/170Nm 2.5-litre diesel. Mid-range KBs get Isuzu's recently upgraded 2.5-litre DTEQ turbodiesel with 100kW and 320Nm, while range-toppers soldier on with the 130kW/380Nm 3-litre unit.
