Toyota previews soon-to-be-revealed new Rav4

Toyota has released the first teaser image of its next-generation Rav4, which is due to be revealed in exactly two weeks from now, at the New York Auto Show on March 28.

The darkened image (above) doesn’t exactly reveal much, but there are certain elements of its silhouette that remind us of last year’s FT-AC Concept (below), which was already rumoured to be a clue provider for the next Rav4 - although those bulky wheel arch mouldings will almost certainly not make production.

Nonetheless, the new Rav will have a more rugged look than the current model.

No details on the mechanicals as yet, but it practically goes without saying that it will be based around Toyota’s TNGA global architecture, while most versions are likely to be powered by the company’s new 2-litre direct injection petrol engine, which is said to boast a “world-leading” thermal efficiency of 40 percent.
