Austin, Texas – Usually a partial highside such as this one is the end of your race.

But when Thai youngster Nakarin Atriratphuvapat of Team Talent Asia got kicked out of the saddle of his Honda going into Turn 9 during the Moto3 Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas on Sunday, he was not about to let go.

He hung on to the ’bars like grim death and made the save of the day – probably the save of his life. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that Turn 9 at Austin leads onto a fast downhill kink – a very scary place to fall off – and that riding it out probably looked like the lesser of two evils to him at the time.
