California was the place to be for car nuts in the last week as the Monterey Peninsula played host to a week-long celebration of just about everything motoring.

From glamorous auctions - one of which marked the world's most expensive car ever sold on auction - to historic racing events like the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, the various events celebrated the ultimate in hedonistic motoring.

It all culminated in the 64th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance over the weekend, which saw an extensive collection of legendary classic and vintage cars vying to impress the judges.

Star of the show this year was a 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Scaglietti Coupe belonging to Jon Shirley. The car had originally been built for Italian movie director Roberto Rossellini and was bought by Shirley 19 years ago.

The Concourse also played host to modern cars, with numerous car companies showing some of their most glamorous concept cars on the 'concept lawn'.

Even the not-so-shiny side of motoring got its spot in the sun at the Concours d'Lemons show, which celebrated the oddball, mundane and truly awful of the automotive world.
