Cape Town – Twenty-nine people were injured when the bus they were travelling in veered off the R50 outside Secunda, Mpumalanga, ER24 paramedics said on Wednesday.

According to ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, ER24, along with several other emergency services, arrived on the scene and found a bus in the middle of a field, approximately 60 metres away from the road.

"Several passengers were found walking around on the scene. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that a total of 29 patients were found on the scene, their injuries ranging from minor to moderate."

The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to a nearby medical centre for further treatment. Meiring said it was believed that heavy mist may have been a contributing factor to the incident.

"Local authorities were on scene for further investigations," he said.
