Four skelms caught stealing copper cables have been busted tools and false number plates.
The suspects were caught red-handed stealing the wires at the corner of Buitekant and Helling Streets in Brackenfell on Thursday afternoon.
Police say the suspects are aged 32, 34, 37 and 53, and were traveling in a white bakkie with a false number plate and tools used to commit the crime.
The suspects were spotted by a passerby who quickly informed a local security company.
The person kept an eye on the thieves until the security guards and the police arrived and successfully made an arrest.
Company manager Johan Marks says: “Upon arrival they confirmed suspects were indeed busy stealing cables.
“Multiple false number plates were also found in the vehicle along with tools used to cut the cables and open the manhole.”
SAPS confirmed four male suspects aged 32, 34, 37 and 53 were being detained at Brackenfell police station for cable theft after they were apprehended by members of a local security company in Brackenfell.
They are expected to make their court appearance today.
