Witbank - Five people were injured Thursday morning after a shoot-out occurred 25km outside of Witbank in Mpumalanga, ER24 paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene they found five vehicles on the scene. One of the vehicles was a large cash-in-transit vehicle.

“A number of the vehicles had been riddled with bullet holes. Paramedics assessed the patients on scene and found that four had sustained minor injuries while a fifth, a man, had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg,” Meiring said.

Paramedics treated the injured on the scene and thereafter transported them to hospitals in Witbank. Meiring said local authorities closed off the intersection. Investigations are continuing.

Police could not be immediately reached for comment.
