Pretoria - An announcement was expected shortly on on Monday from the South African Police Service's national office about acting crime intelligence boss, Major-General Pat Mokushane, a police spokesperson said.

Eyewitness News reported earlier that acting national police commissioner Lesetja Mothiba had axed Mokushane from his current post.

However, Major-General Sally de Beer said an announcement has not yet been made.

Mokushane has been dogged by controversy, including allegations that he dipped into the crime intelligence slush fund and that he was conducting his businesses from his police office.

Mothiba told MPs last week that he had initiated a probe into these allegations and would expect a report by the latest this week.

The fact that Mokushane still did not have top secret security clearance was also an issue. It emerged during the parliamentary meeting that Mokushane's clearance certificate was printed without all the processes, including the evaluation of his application, having been bypassed. The document was later rescinded.
