Luanda - A cargo plane crashed on take-off in Angola's diamond-rich Lunda Norte province, killing a man who had stopped to relieve himself close to the runway, the country's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said on Monday.

The seven people aboard the plane, registered to Gemini Air Cargo, escaped unhurt.

Helder Preza, CAA's chief, said the plane developed engine problems on take-off from near the town of Dundo on Friday and crashed as it tried to land.

It was the third plane crash in Angola since November. On November 1, 48 people died in a crash in north-eastern Angola. Two weeks later, 39 people died in a crash near Luanda. - Reuters
