Cape Town – The Democratic Alliance (DA) on Friday joined the chorus of voices condemning the terrorist attack at Kenya’s Garrissa Univeristy College, saying the killings negatively affected everyone.

“The DA sends its deepest condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in the massacre at Kenya’s Garissa University. Attacks in the name of extremism are especially concerning, and must be condemned. Any violent death in the world diminishes us all,” said DA MP Stevens Mokgalapa.

Mokgalapa said the murder of 147 people and the wounding of 79 others by Somalia-based militant group al-Shabaab was “senseless” and a “cold blooded massacre”.

“Every step possible needs to be taken to apprehend those responsible for these attacks and ensure that justice is done,” said Mokgalapa.

“Our hearts go out to the families of all those killed in cold blood,” he said.

Mokgalapa’s sentiments follows those of African National Congress spokesman Zizi Kodwa who on Thursday said the party was shocked by the attack.

“The ANC is appalled and gravely saddened by the attacks at the University College. The loss of life and attacks on defenseless citizens is indefensible and unjustifiable regardless of the circumstances,” said Kodwa.

Kodwa said the ANC sent its deepest condolences to affected families and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

“We also offer our sincere sympathies to the government and the people of Kenya during this difficult time,” said Kodwa.
