Harare - Theunis Botha, 52, a professional South African hunter, was crushed to death by a herd of breeding elephants in northern Zimbabwe last week.
Botha and his clients were on a state-owned game farm in the Gwayi area in the Matabeleland North province when an elephant cow (a female) went for him. He died instantly.
Apart from elephants, wildlife has become quite sparse in this part of Zimbabwe in recent years, according to local experts.
But Botha died where herds of elephants do move around near and through the Hwange National Park.
His body was taken to the mortuary at the Hwange Colliery.
