Johannesburg - A Ghanaian teenager has been given a 15 year prison sentence for illegally trading in Tramadol. The Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District sentenced 19-year-old farmer Dada Musah, a resident of Ejura, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of dealing in prohibited drugs and also causing unlawful damage, Ghana Web reported on Monday.
Musah was arrested from a market in Ejura after an eyewitness saw him reportedly selling stolen goods, including the drugs. The suspect was also accused by the prosecution of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
However, with the help of some civilians in the market, he was overpowered and arrested and later sent to the police station together with a pair of scissors, a bag containing 54 packs of 250 mg of Tramadol, and a large amount of cash which was the proceeds from the sale of the drugs.
Once in custody Musah again became aggressive and damaged furniture belonging to the Ghana Police Service.
