Nairobi - Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and his Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Wednesday made the first changes in their fractious unity government, removing Odinga's foe from the key agriculture ministry.
William Ruto, who the prime minister tried to sack in February over graft allegations, was transferred to the higher education ministry, swapping posts with Sally Kosgei, a statement from the presidency said.
The statement did not say why the changes, which also saw the appointment of three assistant ministers, were made.
Ruto and Odinga have been at loggerheads for months. The two, who are from the Orange Democratic Movement of the power-sharing government, are currently at odds over an upcoming constitutional referendum.
Ruto is calling for the rejection of the proposed law, arguing that some of its clauses are unsuitable while Odinga and Kibaki are campaigning in its favour.
Kenya's coalition government has been beset by wrangles since its formation two years ago to end deadly violence that flared after the 2007 election. - Sapa-AFP
