US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were welcomed on Thursday to Dakar's presidential palace by his Senegalese counterpart Macky Sall.

Traditional palace guards, dressed in red and gold uniforms, lined the entrance to Senegal's seat of power.

Obama and Sall were expected to hold talks ahead of a session at Senegal's supreme court and a visit to former slave-trading post Goree Island. - Sapa-dpa
