Antananarivo - A district chief was killed as violence flared up in Madagascar during the first presidential vote after a coup four years ago, a government source said.

“A district chief was killed at a polling station” in southern town Benenitra, an interior ministry source told AFP, adding that another person was kidnapped and a polling station burnt in other parts of the island.
