Dakar, Senegal - The son of the former president of Senegal was questioned by police for over 10 hours on accusations that he stole millions in state funds during his father's time in office.

Karim Wade, the son of former president Abdoulaye Wade, arrived at the gendarmerie on Thursday morning at 10.20am. He did not emerge again until 8.30pm, and refused to answer questions from reporters.

His father left office this year after losing the presidential runoff election in a landslide, amid accusations that he and his son had robbed the country.

Karim Wade has long been the subject of accusations of embezzlement, especially after his father appointed him to head a “super ministry”, giving him control over key sectors of the Senegalese economy. - Sapa-AP
