Cape Town - Police are requesting public assistance in a case involving murder, attempted murder and house robbery following an attack on an elderly British couple at a house in Lindsay Street, Knysna.

A 65-year-old woman was found dead and her husband, a 67-year-old, was rushed to a George hospital in a critical condition after suffering injuries to his head inflicted with blunt objects.

The couple’s names were not released as the police are in the process of locating their families.

It was suspected that a television set, two laptops, a tablet and a car were taken from the house.

Police spokesperson Bernadine Steyn explained that officers found the elderly woman on the floor in the sitting room on Sunday.

“She had an open wound in her neck and also injuries to her head. Her husband was found in the garage with open wounds to his body,” Steyn said.

According to her, circumstances surrounding the incident were investigated and no one has been arrested.

“A female friend found the couple’s dog wandering in the street and took it back to the couple’s house, after which she contacted the police.

“A green Isuzu Wizard bakkie with registration number CAW 80489 was taken by the suspect,” said Steyn.

The British High Commission said: “We are aware of an incident involving two British nationals in South Africa and stand ready to provide assistance.”
