Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela has been arrested on a charge of drunken driving in Sandton, Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

“Mr Mphela was arrested and released on bail of R1 000,” said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

He said the striker, known as “Killer” and who scored Bafana Bafana's only goal in their win against Egypt this weekend, was arrested on Bryanston Road around 5am on Monday.

“He was stopped during a routine patrol and when the police spoke to him, they realised he didn't look sober,” said Dlamini.

His next court appearance in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court was scheduled for October 4. - Sapa
