A fearful Eerste River mom is warning people against doing business with her estranged husband.
Geraldine Nortje, 33, says Warren Denver Nortje, 34, has scammed many people out of money and then simply disappeared, leaving her to face the music as victims come knocking on their door.
She alleges that Denver does not have a real business and has gone as far as Grabouw to con people, promising various services.
She went onto Facebook to warn the public about Warren.
“He used to work as a carpenter, then started a transport business doing deliveries and I bought a vehicle to help him.
“Now he apparently goes around telling people he is selling things like blankets but it’s a lie.
“I fear for my life. Gangsters are also coming to my house for their money.
“He left three weeks ago and only came back to change his clothes and then never came back again.
“I don’t know where he lives. I heard he could be in Kleinvlei,” says Geraldine.
“One woman from Grabouw told me he owed her R1500, he loaned money from a man in Strand, took blankets and duvets from a Pakistani man worth up to R2000, one gangster also came looking for him saying he stole his phone, and a few other people.
“I live in fear, I don’t know what to do anymore. I ask people to just stop believing his lies and know he is a scammer.”
Captain FC van Wyk, the police spokesperson, confirms that a case of theft has been opened against Warren in Grabouw.
“A theft case was registered for investigation at Grabouw SAPS with no arrest as yet, and the investigation continues,” he says.
Geraldine says she had no idea Warren was such a liegbek.
“I’m hurt, it feels like my marriage was a scam too.
“We hardly knew each other when he proposed.
“We met each other on 4 July 2020 at Harbour Island in Gordon’s Bay.
“We got engaged in November and married in December,” she says.
She says she took back the vehicle she bought him after he tested positive for drugs.
“He became aggressive and was always lying to me and coming home late at night so I had him tested for drugs and it was positive for tik.”
The Daily Voice tried to contact Warren but his cellphone kept going to voicemail, while his WhatsApp was offline.
