Durban - Redhill residents were stunned to see an abandoned burning car on Thursday night that, on investigation, had a human body in its boot.

According to Warrant Officer Leon Audh of the Greenwood Park SAPS, the person had been shot in the head and the hands tied behind the back.

Kyle van Reenen of Crisis Medical Paramedics said:

“Our members made a discovery of what appeared to be the charred remains of a human in the boot of the vehicle.”

He said that because of the extensive charring and damage, it was not possible to establish whether it was male or female. But it was an adult.”

DA councillor of the ward Heinz de Boer said he received a phone call from Malacca Road residents who

“said that they did not recognise this car. I notified the eThekwini Fire Brigade and the relevant teams arrived to investigate”.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane and De Boer confirmed that the VW Polo Playa has been identified as a car stolen from Sydenham in August last year.

Zwane further said that the owner of the car, who had reported it stolen, had no link to the burning of the vehicle or the dead body found in it.

The 51-year-old owner said her car had been stolen during a house robbery.

Zwane said that a case of murder had been opened at Greenwood Park police station.
