Bothasig cops make drug arrest

Bothasig police arrested a foreign national in an undercover drug bust last week.

The 48-year-old Maitland man had tried to sell cocaine with a street value of R4 000 to a police officer posing as a buyer, in Platte-kloof Road, on Wednesday October 11, said Bothasig police spokesman Warrant Officer Jacques Mostert.

Officers patrolling a burglary hot spot in Bothasig on Tuesday October 10, arrested a 22-year-old suspect who fitted the description of a man who robbed an elderly woman of her cellphone two weeks’ earlier.

After getting a tip-off on Wednesday night October 11 about people diving for abalone, the police and SANParks officials spotted six bags of abalone being loaded into a Nissan Almera in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Provincial police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk said officers chased the car as it headed north on the N7 towards Malmesbury, but then lost sight of it.When they spotted it again it had been abandoned along with the abalone.
