A three-year-old boy is in hospital after he was shot in the tummy during a gang shootout in Scottsdene.
Dad Francisco Williams, 36, says he was outside with little Michael Sophat when the shots rang out just after 10am yesterday.
“Michael and I were standing in Willie Street when a young man suddenly came up and shot at gangsters in Joseph Avenue,” he said.
“Five shots were fired, one of which hit my child.”
The bullet hit Michael in the abdomen and came out his back.
The dad says fortunately his wife Wendy was at the dentist with their three other children at the time.
Wendy rushed home as police took Michael to Kraaifontein Day Hospital.
Due to the seriousness of the wound, the boy was then transferred to Red Cross Children’s Hospital.
When the Daily Voice met with the family, two mattresses were being delivered to their home.
The mom appeared in the Daily Voice earlier this week with other fire victims who received help from the police and community organisations.
Francisco says: “I want to say thank you to Realmen and Shack Builder who surprised us with two mattresses in our time of sorrow.”
SAPS’ Andrè Traut says: “A three-year-old boy was caught in the crossfire of rival gangs in Willie Street, Scottsdene and sustained a gunshot wound.
“The child was admitted to hospital where he is being treated.
“An investigation has been launched to apprehend the suspect or suspects responsible.”
