Pretoria - The body of yet another woman was discovered in Mamelodi on Wednesday but police quashed speculation that it might be the work of an serial killer.

The charred remains bring to three the number of women who have been killed in the township in a week.

Police spokeswoman Captain Doniah Mothutsane said the latest body was found on Wednesday at 8am inside a municipal bin in an open veld.

Mothutsane said police could not confirm if the body was linked to the alleged serial killer who was attacked by the community on Tuesday.

“The modus operandi used in all three cases of women found murdered is not the same,” Mothutsane said.

When Letta Letsoalo’s body was found, both her hands were tied, she said. The other victim, Katlego Ndlovu, 24, was found strangled with barbed wire.

Wednesday’s body was burnt beyond recognition.

She has still not been identified.

“Evidence has been collected at all the crime scenes and will be sent to the laboratory for analysis. We are awaiting the post-mortem results of all the three deaths,” Mothutsane said.

On Tuesday, residents of the Marikana informal settlement outside Mamelodi, viciously attacked a local taxi driver who they accused of killing the women. They claim he is serial killer and rapist.

His shack and two cars were torched during the frenzied attack. In one of the cars believed to have been used in the alleged kidnappings, residents claim they found barbed wire and blood stains in the boot.

Mothutsane said the man was being treated at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

“We do not have anything linking him to the deaths and we cannot say that he is suspected of being a serial killer,” she said.
