A police officer and two alleged accomplices would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and attempted house robbery, Gauteng police said.

“They were arrested at 6th Street, La Rochelle, while they were involved in a house robbery following a shooting incident in Lang and Kruger streets, Rosettenville on Tuesday night at 11.20pm,” Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

A policeman's service pistol was seized.

Police first responded to a complaint that three men in a BMW had fired several shots at an unidentified person in Rosettenville and then driven away.

Police found several 9mm pistol cartridges at the scene. The victim had already left but a witness described the suspects.

The officers then received a second complaint of a house robbery in progress at a house in La Rochelle.

“On arrival at the scene, they found the same vehicle that was involved earlier in the shooting and arrested three suspects.”

The home owner had called the police while the men were trying to break into his house.

The suspects' vehicle, a white BMW, was impounded.

Dlamini said police suspected the vehicle was used by the men in several violent crimes and investigations were continuing. -
