Phalaborwa - A police constable and four other people appeared in the Phalaborwa Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of theft and possession of suspected stolen property, said Limpopo police.

“Constable Clarance Nkuna, Benjamin Peter Ndlovu, Davy Ndzeni, Phatudi Malatji and Calvin Ngobeni... were granted R2 000 bail each,” Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said in a statement.

Their case was postponed to August 13.

The group was caught trying to leave the Foskor Mine premises with copper worth more than R80 000 on Friday, Mulaudzi said.

“The constable was driving a marked police vehicle with the four occupants when they were stopped at a searching point,” said Mulaudzi.

The copper was found and the men were arrested.

Nkuna faced internal charges with the SA Police Services.
