Rustenburg - Five people were arrested in Hartebeesfontein near Klerksdorp on Tuesday, for allegedly stealing cattle valued at R90 000, North West police said.

“The police received a tip-off from members of the community about suspicious people who were slaughtering cattle in Dominionville. Upon arrival at the scene, police found five suspects who were busy slaughtering cattle,” police spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

“There were 11 Bonsmara cattle in total, five calves and six cows which includes the two cows that were slaughtered, to the value of R 90 000. Through the help of the brand mark on the stock they managed to identify the owner. The police immediately arrested the suspects.”

Ramaloko said the cattle were allegedly stolen from a Klippan farm about eight kilometres from where the five people were arrested.

He said the police also recovered suspected stolen copper cable with an estimated value of R2 000. The five were expected to appear in court soon.
