A 30-year-old Western Cape man says police assaulted him, forced him to strip and put on a condom so they could violate him.

This is the latest allegation levelled at a notorious group of cops dubbed “Die Slaan Squad” operating in the Overberg region.

Reginald Steneveldt, from Mount Pleasant, says his humiliation was made worse because he was told to strip in front of two female officers.

He says the women laughed as he was told to undress.

Meanwhile, he feared for his life and that of his friend Bradley Miggels, 30.

A traumatised Steneveldt says police dragged Miggels off into the bushes where they assaulted him during a raid on Sunday morning.

“I thought they were going to kill him the way they were assaulting him,” says Steneveldt.

He says their nightmare began when he, Bradley and a female friend were heading to a friend in Kleinmond at about 3am.

But close to the quiet town, the group got stuck without petrol and a flat battery.

Minutes later, three vehicles pulled up.

Steneveldt says while they were waiting for his uncle to arrive and assist them, cops arrived in a white Ford Focus, a police van from Mitchells Plain and a white Nissan bakkie.

They swore at them and told them to get out of the car, Steneveldt claims.

“They hit me in the chest with their fists and a torch and demanded I tell them where the perlemoen is.”

Miggels says: “They also kicked me in the testicles.”

Cops then allegedly dragged him into bushes and beat him.

Steneveldt says he was then forced to strip in the street.

“They told me to put on a condom because I must have sex with one of them,” he says.

“I was very embarrassed because there were two female cops. But I thought they would kill me if I didn’t.”

He alleges that while he struggled to open the condom wrapper, an officer whipped him over his head and back.

“He also hit me in the face because I spoke Afrikaans,” claims Steneveldt.

He says the assault lasted for about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, their female companion was forced to walk 5km alone in the dark to a friend.

And he claims cops beat up his uncle who came to repair their broken down car.

The two men deny that they are poachers or were on their way to poach.

“I won’t go poach if a woman is with me,” says Steneveldt.

By time of going to press, the police had still not answered requests for comment.
