17 more Covid-19 deaths, 8895 infections

CAPE TOWN- 17 more Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded in South Africa as the total now stands at 178, while infections are at 8895, a steep increase of 663.

Health minister Zweli Mkhize said that there was a delay in reporting some of the deaths due to the stringent verification process.

Of the latest victims, nine are from the Western Cape, three from Gauteng, three from the Eastern Cape and two from KwaZulu-Natal.

Mkhize said that435 patients are in hospitals as result of the coronavirus and that the country's hospitalisation rate is 5% of all Covid-19 diagnosed patients.
