57 more Covid-19 deaths, cases at 76 334

CAPE TOWN- South Africa has recorded 57 more Covid-19 related deaths, bringing the national death toll to 1 625, while the cumulative number of cases is 76 334, an increase of 2 801.

Of the latest fatalities, 44 are from the Western Cape, 9 from the Eastern Cape, and 4 from KwaZulu-Natal.

Recoveries to date are 42 063, which translates to a recovery rate of 55.1%.

Health minister Zweli Mkhize said there has been a breakthrough in one of the therapeutic trials for Covid-19 management. The RECOVERY (Randomised Evaluation of Covid-19 Therapy) trial has published results on the therapeutic merits of low dose Dexamethasone.

Dexamethasone is a widely used steroid which has anti-inflammatory properties.
