DURBAN - A group of visual artists based in Durban, will be hosting an online auction from Friday until Monday 27 April. The purpose of the auction is to raise funds for those who have been financially affected by the Coronavirus.
Project coordinator, Thobeka Dhlomo said, “ We as artists are very aware of the realities of the majority of the people in this country. In a normal situation in South Africa the majority of people, especially black people, struggle to put food on the table - how much worse during the Lockdown. The effect that the lockdown has had and will continue to have on the majority of people is what inspired this concept. We aim to do what we can to assist where possible.”

The auction will be conducted via the participating artists' social media platforms, as well as Phansi Ubuntu Art Museums social media platforms. The bidding process is expected to commence at 8am Friday (24 April) and close on Monday 27 April at 8am. With the highest bidder for each piece getting the artwork.
“With this particular initiative of an online auction, we aim to use art in an attempt to raise funds for struggling people/families during this difficult time. People are more than welcome to donate without bidding. The more bidders we have the better,” added Dhlomo.
