CAPE TOWN- The City of Cape Town will be supplying 10 000 informal traders with Covid-19 toolkits to safely reopen and resume trading as required by the lockdown.
Informal traders who are registered on the City’s database and have Covid-19 permits and concession letters will be contacted by the City via SMS and will need to indicate if they are interested in the offer.
“The City is committed to doing all it can to support residents, traders and small business owners to provide some reassurance and comfort during this challenging period. This toolkit is one of the many initiatives we have rolled out to lessen the impact of COVID-19 on our residents,” said Executive Mayor Dan Plato.
Each toolkit contains the following items:
Three litres of hand sanitiser
A social-distancing mat to remind customers to keep 1,5m from traders
Two cloth masks
A warm winter beanie
A toolkit bag
Information on how to operate safely during the pandemic
Unemployed individuals are encouraged to apply for an informal trading permit. South African citizens will need to provide their IDs and foreign nationals will need to provide proof of their legal status in South Africa.
