CAPE TOWN - Since Covid-19 has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and South Africa declaring a national state of disaster, there have been numerous false Coronavirus preventative tips being circulated.

One of these myths - Eating garlic prevents or cures Coronavirus - this is FALSE.

Garlic does have a large number of health benefits, from boosting immunity, as an anti-inflammatory, to reducing the chance of heart disease and reportedly improving cardiovascular health.

This is why it is easy to see that it can be associated with a way to prevent or cure Covid-19. However, WHO and the National Department of Health have urgently reiterated “there is no evidence from the current outbreak that eating garlic has protected people from the new coronavirus”.

There is no cure for Covid-19, and the way to prevent being infected is to practice social distancing and immaculate hygiene. Anything else is putting yourself and loved ones at risk of a fatal virus.
