DURBAN – Durban film, Alone, won the Best Short film award at the Enfoque International Film Festive in Puerto Rico.
The film is about life during the countrywide lockdown. Its powerful message focusses on mental health and the feelings of isolation during Covid-19. Alone was one of 475 entries for the short film category and it is the first South African short film to win this award.
The film was shot inside the home-office by Tami and Dylan Marriot who own their own production company, Edit Room. The original script had to be rewritten and a new voice over was incorporated to relate to the theme of living during the Covid-19 pandemic under strict physical distancing restrictions.
Tami said: “It was never intended to be what it became. We filmed the bulk of it over a year ago as a passion project to bulk up our individual portfolios. I noticed there was a call for Covid-19 related films and saw the opportunity to spread our message further than just Durban. International film festivals allow you to reach a global audience which is so important, especially in times like this where it can feel like countries are so isolated from each other.”
