South Africa is little over three months into the national lockdown period, and while the economy has slowly reopened, there are still restrictions when it comes to holidays and traveling.
However, self-drive day trips are allowed and we’ve put together five day trips you should try in the Eastern Cape:
WATERFALL TRAIL
Located in the Tsitsikamma National Park, the Waterfall Trail takes you across the beautiful coastal beach boulders.
ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK
The park was founded In a bid to protect the remaining Eastern Cape elephants. It is the third largest national park in the country and hosts not just elephants, but Africa’s Big 7 - which includes buffalos, rhinos, leopards, lions, the great white shark and southern right whale.
KITCHING FOSSIL EXPLORATION CENTRE
Situated in the heart of the Karoo, next to the famous Owl House in Nieu-Bethesda, the centre will take you on a journey back in time with life-sized models of prehistoric animals that lived there.
MOUNTAIN ZEBRA NATIONAL PARK
Do a self-drive in the Mountain Zebra National Park in Cradock. The park offers unique scenery and game viewing.
RHODES
A small village bordering Lesotho is known for its natural beauty. There are multiple hiking trails, rock art and 4x4 trails to explore.
