CAPE TOWN- France and Germany announced on Wednesday that second national lockdowns will be implemented within the week, as Europe struggles to bring the latest wave of Covid-19 under control before the winter.
French President Emmanuel Macron said that from Friday until 1 December, citizens will only be allowed to leave their homes to buy essential goods, for medical reasons and exercise will be limited to one hour a day.
The country currently has over a million active cases, with 33,000 new cases recorded on Tuesday alone.

Germany will head into its second lockdown next week Monday until 30. The four-week lockdown will allow shops, schools and daycare centers to remain open, but bars, restaurants and most indoor entertaining activities will be prohibited. Restaurants will only be permitted to provide take-out food.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed on the partial lockdown in a videoconference with the country's 16 state governors, who are responsible for imposing and easing restrictions.
"We must act, and now, to avoid an acute national health emergency," Merkel said.
Germany’s disease control agency said a record 14,964 new confirmed cases were recorded across the country in the past day, taking the national total in the pandemic to 449,275.
