CAPE TOWN –
With the national infection rate currently at 381 798 with a total of 208 144 recoveries, Groote Schuur hospital announced the release of their longest Covid-19 patient.
Dr Marc Mendelson, a Professor of Infectious Diseases and Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases & HIV Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital, said the release of the patient was an emotional day following 54 days in the intensive care unit (ICU).
“Emotional day #GrooteSchuurHospital – our longest stay patient (77 days, 54 on ICU) walked out of the hospital, & then 67 messages from UCT Health Science students to frontline workers – tearful but wonderful reading. Thank you from an equally small potato on behalf of much larger ones,” he said.
