CAPE TOWN- Nelson Mandela International Day will look very different this year due to the Covid-19 outbreak, however, this has not stopped determined organisations from making an impact in their communities.

Inspired by the Congress of South African Students mantra, Each One Teach One, the Nelson Mandela Foundation is calling on South Africans to take action and play their part in the Covid-19

#Each1Feed1 campaign.

In partnership with the Siya Kolisi Foundation and the Imbumba Foundation, the campaign will look at the needs of child-headed households, the elderly, refugees and those in deep rural areas. This year, they hope to raise R500 000.

For more than ten years, Nelson Mandela International Day has mobilised individuals, governments, civil society and corporate entities to make the world a better place for all.

Here’s how you can help and pay it forward this year on Mandela Day:

Children:

Assemble a box of goodies for children in need

Christel House in Ottery invites you to use your 67 minutes to assemble an essential Covid-19 goodies bag for a student in need. The items which you can fill each bag with can include food parcels, cloth masks and hand sanitizer. Christel House encourages participants to value their food parcels at R150 so all kids receive the same amount. You can also fill it up with non-perishable items such as maize meal, rice, cooking oil or canned goods. When you're happy with your parcel you can drop it off at Christel House school on 17 July.

VFC - Mandela Virtual 67km Race

VFC calls on runners, cyclists and walkers in South Africa and around the world to take part in this virtual race. The 67km route will be superimposed via the companion app. All proceeds go to the Nelson Mandela Children’s fund.
